PHP Fibers, a Toyobo Group Joint Venture Company, acquires German airbag fabrics maker to beef up global production and supply system
PHP Fibers GmbH, a Toyobo Group joint venture company in Germany, has agreed to acquire UTT Technische Textilien GmbH & Co. KG, a German maker of fabrics for airbags operating globally with factories in Germany and Mexico.
In 2014, Toyobo Co., Ltd., acquired PHP, a maker of yarns for airbags with the second-largest market share at that time, together with Thailand’s Indorama Ventures Public Co., Ltd., the largest polyethylene terephthalate (PET) producer in the world.
With the construction in 2019 of a fabrics production plant by PHP, using Toyobo’s fabrics production technologies, the Toyobo Group will be the only maker capable of supplying everything from yarn to fabrics for airbags, at five operational hubs around the world – Japan, Thailand, China, the United States and Europe.
UTT has advanced fabrics production technologies, such as air-jet looms, and now that the company is placed under the PHP umbrella, Toyobo will further strengthen the global production and supply system to meet wide-ranging needs of its clients.
