Toyobo seeks to become "The category leader, continuing to create new value that contributes to society in the environment, healthcare, and high-function products fields."
Toyobo's business activities are supported by its core technologies. These are (1) polymerization, modification, and processing for polymers, which were accumulated from the development of synthetic fiber, and (2) biotechnologies, which were developed through the research of treating waste water from plants processing pulp with yeast fermentation technology. Making use of these technologies, Toyobo has been able to provide the world with high-function products that include high-transparency polyester optical films, high performance fibers, hollow fiber membranes for artificial kidneys, and enzymes for use in clinical trial reagents. These products have made major contributions to the expansion of Toyobo's business activities.
Aiming for further growth, Toyobo has prepared action plans for expanding new product development and creating new businesses. To combine and increase the sophistication of its core technologies, Toyobo is enhancing open innovation with other companies in Japan and overseas, universities, as well as research institutes and is taking initiatives to rapidly develop next-generation technologies. The objective of Toyobo's R&D activities is to gain a position of advantage in growth markets and create new products.
