Toyobo joins Petcore Europe to help achieve sustainable growth of PET as packaging material

Toyobo Co., Ltd. Joined Petcore Europe, a consortium covering the entire polyethylene terephthalate (PET) value chain in Europe. Petcore Europe was established in Brussels, Belgium in 1993, and consists of more than 80 companies and organizations in the PET value chain in Europe, including PET resin and film suppliers, packaging converters, recyclers and consumer products manufacturers.

Toyobo manufactures wide range of packaging PET films from high-performance films with an excellent gas barrier function which help extend the shelf life of food, and eco-friendly films made with recycled resin from beverage PET bottles. Recycled resin accounts for 80 percent of materials, one of the highest rate in the world, used to produce Cycle Clean™. The film is 12 micrometers thickness, the industry’s thinnest. Cycle Clean™, which went on the market in 2012 and is widely used for PET bottle labels and other purposes, is a product that can help cut emissions of CO2 during the manufacturing process and reduce waste by realizing thinner packaging. Furthermore, Toyobo is proactively developing next-generation packaging films for mono-material packaging, that are easy to be recycled.
