The goal of conserving or protecting at least 30 percent of each country’s land and ocean by 2030 (30by30) was established at the summit of Group of Seven industrialized nations held in June 2021 in Britain. It attracted a great deal of attention worldwide. In April 2022, the alliance was launched by Japan’s Environment Ministry, other Japanese government organizations, corporations and non-profit organizations to promote nationwide efforts to promote biodiversity in Japan. More than 300 companies and organizations had joined the alliance as of November 2022.

In its Sustainable Vision 2030*1, which was unveiled on May 26, 2022, the Toyobo Group committed itself to finding solutions that ensure “the good condition of water area, atmosphere and soil, and biodiversity.” By participating in this alliance, the Group will accelerate its efforts to obtain certification of other effective area-based conservation measures (OECM)*2 for the forests it owns and promote their preservation. By doing so, the Group aims to strengthen its nature-positive efforts to help Japan achieve 30by30.

*2: OECM: Areas in which local communities, companies and organizations are engaged in the preservation of biodiversity, such as satochi-satoyama (land and woods near human habitats and tended by people) and forests owned by companies, shrines or temples.
