Toyobo started as a cotton spinning mill.
With a pioneering spirit that aims to realize a better society and richer lives, we have since grown into a company that produces, processes, and sells performance materials. These include products in four areas: Films, Life Science, Environmental and Functional Materials, and Functional Textiles and Trading.
We are never satisfied with the present.

In May 2022, Toyobo observed the 140th anniversary of its founding. We launched our Sustainable Vision 2030 and 2025 Medium-Term Management Plan.
Sustainable Vision 2030 anticipates changes in the business environment of the future and shows the ideal state we seek based on our corporate philosophy, as well as our sustainability indicators and action plans. We want to be a sustainable company that helps promote sustainability, while changing our corporate culture to one oriented toward sustainable growth.

Examples include supplying desalination technology to address water scarcity, and products that help reduce food loss and waste and limit CO₂ emissions. We also provide detection kits for various infectious diseases that deliver fast results.

- Heat-shrinkable film for sustainable labels on beverage bottles
- Toyobo's heat-shrinkable film lineups contribute to reduction of environment impact through down-gauging and containing recycled raw materials.

- A super retarder film that eliminates the rainbow effect
- A combination of LED light sources eliminates double-refraction-induced tinting (i.e., the rainbow effect) and converts light emitted by LCD into a state that is closer to natural light.

TOYOBO HISTORY
～140-year trajectory～
Osaka Boseki, the predecessor to Toyobo, was established in 1882 by Eiichi Shibusawa. In 1914, it merged with Mie Boseki, which was founded in 1886 (also with Shibusawa's involvement), to form TOYOBO Co., Ltd. This merger was facilitated by Shibusawa, who served as an advisor to the two companies.
Since its inception, Toyobo has responded to market and societal needs with sophisticated technologies, remaining keenly attuned to the changing times.
